Volvo Expands Its Demolition Muscle with the New EC950 High Reach Excavator
Volvo Construction Equipment is pushing demolition capability to new heights with the introduction of the EC950 High Reach Excavator, now the largest high-reach excavator in the company’s lineup. Joining Volvo’s established EC400, EC500 and EC750 High Reach machines.
As high-reach demolition becomes the preferred method for multi-level projects, specialized excavators offer greater safety and precision. The EC950 High Reach delivers modular versatility, rock-solid stability and cutting-edge safety technology to handle the toughest jobs.
Created through collaboration between Volvo engineers and authorized partners, the EC950 High Reach is supported by Volvo CE North America and its dealer network for parts and warranty service.
Designed for transport, built for flexibility
Moving ultra-large demolition equipment between jobsites is often a logistical challenge. Volvo addressed this head-on by engineering the EC950 High Reach to stay within standard transport limits for height, weight and length.
At the heart of this approach is a modular boom and arm system that simplifies both assembly and breakdown. Hydraulic removable counterweights, detachable side tracks, modular boom sections and hinged walkways all contribute to easier transport. Hook-on undercarriage track units further reduce weight, making the machine more manageable to move.
With a maximum transport height under 12 feet, the EC950 can be quickly configured on-site using modular joints and hydraulic pin systems. This flexibility allows contractors to adapt the machine to different demolition scenarios, adjust pin heights and tool capacities, and maximize utilization — helping lower ownership costs while broadening jobsite capability.
Stability engineered for extreme demolition work
Demolition environments demand machines that remain steady under immense stress. The EC950 High Reach is built to Volvo’s Ultra High Reach (UHR) stability standards, providing dependable balance even when working at extended reach with heavy attachments.
With Volvo’s durable undercarriage as its foundation, the machine incorporates a specially built upper frame equipped with a boom adapter and larger format boom and cylinder pins for superior load handling. Completing the system is a high‑strength ring gear engineered to resist the substantial forces generated during heavy demolition operations.
Demolition-focused technology enhances safety and productivity
Packed with demolition‑specific enhancements, the EC950 High Reach boosts safety, comfort, and visibility for operators tackling demanding demolition jobs. It’s up to 30° tilting cab delivers clear upward sightlines, and a removable 84,000‑lb (38.1‑ton) counterweight, paired with a redesigned undercarriage, ensures safer management of heavy loads.
Volvo’s Total Moment Indicator (TMI) continuously monitors machine load conditions, providing real-time feedback to reduce the risk of overloading or tipping. With the Volvo Smart View camera system and optional obstacle detection, operators gain improved visibility, helping protect both themselves and other onsite personnel.
Built for demanding environments, the high‑visibility cab is outfitted with P5A‑certified polycarbonate windows and a frame‑mounted falling object guard to shield operators from falling materials. Critical components receive added security through undercover protection, full track guards, a slew ring cover, and reinforced boom and bucket cylinder guards.
Fleet performance is further supported through CareTrack telematics and ActiveCare® Direct monitoring, delivering machine health data and predictive maintenance alerts to minimize downtime.
Best‑in‑Class Operator Environment
The EC950 High Reach showcases Volvo’s commitment to creating operator environments that set the industry standard. Its spacious, quiet cab is designed for total control, with every interface — joysticks, keypad, and LCD display — placed exactly where operators need them for smooth, intuitive operation. Entry is effortless through the wide door, and hydraulic damping and noise‑absorbing linings keep vibrations and sound to a minimum.
Operators can finetune their workspace with a fully adjustable seat and independently moving joystick console, ensuring lasting comfort and improved performance on extended shifts. Whatever the conditions outside, the integrated climate control system delivers pressurized, filtered air for a clean and comfortable cab environment.
Cleaner demolition through integrated dust control
Dust management is a growing priority on demolition sites, and the EC950 High Reach incorporates a built-in suppression and cleaning system to meet evolving standards. Dual spray nozzles help control airborne particles, while a high-pressure washer keeps machine components clear of debris. Operators, jobsites, and surrounding communities all benefit from a cleaner working environment. At the same time, the system safeguards vital components, promoting long-term reliability and lowering maintenance demands.
The EC950 High Reach is now available across North America. For additional details, reach out to your local Volvo CE dealer.
