Vermeer Levels Up with New Cab Option for D24 HDD
The Vermeer D24 horizontal directional drill is setting a new standard in its class with the introduction of a factory-installed cab, designed to enhance operator experience while supporting productivity across all seasons.
Designed with urban contractors in mind, the D24 now leads its class as the first drill to offer a cab. The operator environment is fully enclosed and climate-controlled to support consistent utilization and reduce operator turnover in challenging weather.
Operator comfort takes priority in the D24 cab option. The enclosed cab significantly lowers noise levels from 88 dB(A) to 72.6 dB(A), creating a quieter workspace. With a high-back Grammer suspension seat and vibration-isolating cab mounts, operators experience a smoother, more comfortable ride. The temperature control system’s top-mounted condenser is positioned to reduce contact with debris and optimize long-term system performance.
Despite the addition of the cab, the D24 maintains a compact footprint which is ideal for navigating tight urban environments. The cabs spacious interior is complemented by practical visibility enhancements, including 50% tint on the non-rack facing windows to limit heat buildup from sunlight, while maintaining a clear rack-side window for precise drill pipe visibility. A second windshield wiper on the cab’s left side maintains visibility when breaking rods, and an available wireless radio option keeps operators connected.
The cab option builds on the strength and performance of the D24 HDD. Featuring a 100-hp (74.6-kW) CAT® 3.6L Tier 4F/Stage V engine, this 24,000 lb (110-kN) class drill generates 24,700 lb (110 kN) of peak thrust and pullback, and 22,000 lb (98 kN) continuously. It also provides 3,080 ft-lb (4,176 Nm) of rotational torque and a 45-gpm (170-L/min) mud pump.
Advanced technology helps improve efficiency on the job, including an Automated Rod Exchange (ARE) system that automates the rod changeout sequence and eliminates up to 19 manual steps, all with a single button push. Integrated onboard diagnostics, accessible through a touchscreen interface, provide guided troubleshooting to help improve uptime. The hydraulic system utilizes premium-grade components commonly found in larger pipeline equipment, supporting durability and long-term performance. With rotation speeds reaching 198 rpm and carriage speeds of 181 fpm (55 m/min), the unit supports higher daily installation output.
