New Cat® 308 CR Fixed Boom Mini Excavator Boosts Performance in Compact Jobsites
Taking the place of the Cat® 307.5, the new Cat 308 CR Fixed Boom mini excavator delivers increased power, higher lift capacities and enhanced hydraulic performance—all in a compact radius package.
Key Highlights
• The fixed boom boosts lifting strength and stability, working hand in hand with the compact radius design for dependable performance
• Upgraded to a compact radius from a standard tail, the machine excels in tight quarters and crowded jobsites
• Choose between 250 kg and 500 kg counterweights to tailor lifting performance and machine balance
• With 25% more gross horsepower than the 307.5, the machine packs the added punch needed for hydromechanical attachments
The Cat® 308 CR Fixed Boom mini excavator succeeds the 307.5 Fixed Boom, introducing increased engine performance and improved hydraulic capability to deliver greater productivity when powering hydromechanical attachments. The latest 8 tonne class offering from Caterpillar introduces a compact radius design that cuts machine overhang by 67% versus the previous model when using the 250 kg (550 lb) counterweight. Even with the heavier optional 500 kg (1,100 lb) counterweight, not offered on the 307.5, the new 308 achieves a 61% overhang reduction.
Power That Works Smarter
Powered by the Cat C2.8 Turbo engine, the new 308 CR delivers 51.2 kW (69.0 hp) of net power while complying with EU Stage V and U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final emissions standards. Fuel-saving features such as auto idle, auto engine shutdown, and a Smart variable displacement hydraulic pump help minimize operating costs over the life of the machine.
Compared to its predecessor, the 308 CR offers greater stability thanks to wider tracks, a longer undercarriage, and increased operating weight—providing added confidence during side lifting operations. A choice of rubber belts, steel tracks, or steel tracks with rubber pads allows the machine to be configured for a wide range of applications. The long stick option increases digging depth to 4,687 mm (185 in) and extends maximum reach to 6,900 mm (272 in), while lifting capacities have been improved when operating over the front and over the side.
The 308 maintains the same pin sizing as the 307.5, enabling customers to use existing work tools without modification. A load-sensing hydraulic system with a variable displacement piston pump delivers up to 167 L/min (44 gal/min) of oil flow. Efficient tool operation is supported by a primary auxiliary circuit pump offering 131 L/min (35 gal/min) and a secondary auxiliary circuit with a maximum flow of 33 L/min (9 gal/min).
Operator Assist Technologies
Cat Indicate and E-Fence technologies help operators work more accurately and efficiently. Available from the factory or as field-installed upgrades, customers can choose between two software packages—Indicate or E-Fence—based on their needs.
Indicate is an entry-level grade control system that provides visual and audible cues showing the bucket’s position relative to target grade. It allows operators to program flat grades or slopes and is well suited for footings, septic systems, foundations and slope work.
E-Ceiling and E-Floor automatically limit machine movement within defined boundaries. E-Ceiling helps avoid overhead obstacles such as powerlines, ceilings and tree limbs, while E-Floor protects underground utilities by setting depth limits. E-Wall adds protection for structures in front of the machine by restricting forward motion.
Laser Catcher technology further improves efficiency and safety by referencing a laser transmitter to maintain a consistent grade across the job site. Retrofittable to all EOU machines, it reduces the need for manual grade checks by the operator or ground personnel.
Aftermarket Cat Grade systems provide additional automation. Cat Grade Advanced 2D enables operators to set parameters such as cross slope and main fall for digging and leveling. For more complex work, Cat Grade 3D uses global navigational satellite system receivers and correction data to deliver Real Time Kinematic positioning for advanced planes, slopes, contours and curves.
