Liebherr TA 230 Litronic ADT Tackles Tough Quarry Applications
Liebherr is showcasing its TA 230 Litronic articulated dump truck at steinexpo 2026, with the 30-tonne-class machine featured in both a static display and a live demonstration.
Built for quarrying, open-pit mining and overburden removal, the TA 230 is designed to move large loads across rough terrain while handling the abrasive conditions common to extraction sites.
The articulated dump truck has a payload capacity of up to 28 tonnes and a maximum dump body capacity of 18.10 cubic meters with the tailgate. A 6-cylinder, 12-liter engine produces 265 kW (360 hp), with maximum travel speeds of up to 57 km/h forward and 16 km/h in reverse.
Designed for demanding terrain
The TA 230 uses permanent 6x6 all-wheel drive, an automatic differential lock and axle suspension to provide traction on challenging terrain and steep grades.
Quarry work can put additional wear on tires and dump bodies, so Liebherr offers equipment options aimed at extending component life. Rock tires are designed for demanding quarry conditions, while an 8-millimeter wear-plate liner protects the inside of the dump body from abrasive material. A quarry tailgate helps keep bulky material contained during transport and swings downward automatically as the dump body rises, keeping it clear during unloading.
Operator-focused cab
The TA 230's cab is designed with long shifts in mind. The large interior includes multiple storage areas, bottle holders and an air-conditioned storage compartment, while clearly arranged controls help operators quickly become familiar with the machine.
Front-axle shock absorbers and viscoelastic cab suspension help reduce vibration when traveling over rough ground. Cab soundproofing limits interior noise to 72 dB(A).
Visibility is supported by extensive glazing and a short, sloping engine hood. The rearview camera allows operators to monitor what's behind the truck from the cab's touch display. LED lighting, including front headlights and additional lights at the rear of the body and on the mudguards, helps illuminate the machine and surrounding work area during nighttime operations.
Load monitoring and speed control
The TA 230 comes standard with a weighing system that monitors payload and displays the current load on the cab’s display. Load data can also be viewed through MyLiebherr Maintenance & Performance.
The system helps operators reach target payloads while avoiding overloading. An optional loading light provides an external indication of the truck's loading status.
A standard speed limiter sets a preset maximum speed. When traveling downhill, engine braking and the continuously variable retarder automatically work to maintain that speed. The retarder also reduces use of the disc brakes, helping limit wear.
Hill Start Assist comes standard and helps control starting torque on slopes, reducing the risk of the truck rolling backward.
