Kubota Adds M5L Tractor to Autonomous Technology Pilot
Kubota is extending its autonomous technology pilot with Agtonomy to include the M5 Low Profile (M5L) diesel tractor, targeting the needs of orchard and nut growers.
The project will pair Agtonomy’s software with the M5L for autonomous applications in specialty crop operations. Planned applications include spraying, mowing and underplant cultivation, as well as sanitation mowing in orchards.
The M5L brings a low-profile design and greater lift capacity to the pilot, allowing the companies to explore autonomous functions for a wider range of orchard work. The goal is to help growers incorporate autonomous technology into their diesel tractor operations.
Feedback from orchard and nut producers has helped shape the project. While Kubota’s M5N is suited to narrow-row applications, the M5L offers features better suited to the needs of orchard and nut production.
Kubota dealers will help growers incorporate the technology into their day-to-day operations.
Kubota and Agtonomy will continue refining autonomous capabilities for specialty crop operations, using grower input to help guide development.
