Komatsu Opens New Mining Operations Hub in Peoria
Komatsu has completed a new office complex in Peoria, Illinois. The opening was marked by a ceremony that included a commemorative tree planting, highlighting the company's investment in its Peoria operations.
As the headquarters for Komatsu's surface haulage operations, the new building houses teams involved in engineering, product development, sales and manufacturing management that support the company's global mining business.
The facility replaces an office building that had been part of Komatsu's Peoria operations since the 1970s and features modern office space alongside a dedicated Customer Experience Center, where visitors can learn more about Komatsu's equipment and technology used in mining operations.
Among the facility's notable features are a rainwater collection system, renewable energy credits that offset purchased electricity and an on-site solar array projected to produce about 120,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity each year.
The grand opening also drew attention to one of Komatsu's most notable products, the 980E-5SE mining truck, displayed prominently at the entrance to the Peoria facility. Manufactured locally, the truck earned recognition as the 2024 "Coolest Thing Made in Illinois" through the Illinois Manufacturers' Association's Makers Madness competition. The truck features a 400-ton payload capacity and electric-drive technology and serves as a prominent example of the mining equipment produced in Peoria.
