Komatsu brings the PC9000 Hydraulic Mining Excavator to worldwide market

Komatsu Germany Mining Division (KGM) has officially introduced the PC9000-12 to the global market, marking the worldwide rollout of the largest and most advanced hydraulic mining excavator in the company’s lineup. Building on its success in Canada, the PC9000-12 is now expanding to customers worldwide through Komatsu’s dealer network.

With the PC9000-12, Komatsu continues to evolve its surface mining lineup by delivering improved productivity, greater efficiency and reduced costs alongside trusted reliability.

Engineered for demanding mining conditions, the PC9000-12 offers multiple power options, including diesel Tier 4, diesel unregulated and electric drive. This gives mining companies the ability to tailor equipment choices to the unique requirements of each operation.

Delivering peak bucket capacity, extended reach and maximum digging power in the PC series, it enables faster cycles and higher output at a lower production cost.

Available for mining operations around the world, the PC9000-12 is available with either a front shovel bucket (46 m³) or a backhoe bucket (49 m³). It is designed to achieve an ideal 3–5 pass match with Komatsu mining trucks in the 240–400 short ton class.

Capable of moving more than 80 tons per pass, the PC9000-12 can fully load a Komatsu 980E truck with five passes in under 150 seconds. When operating under ideal conditions, output can total around 8,000 tons per hour.

The PC9000-12 is engineered for evolving mine sites, offering efficient double-side loading and built-in compatibility with Komatsu’s FrontRunner Autonomous Haulage System.

Operator experience remains a priority, with a roomy cab and advanced monitoring systems that reduce fatigue and support steady performance.

The PC9000-12 made its debut in May 2025 at a Canadian oilsands site, with SMS Equipment playing a key role as launch partner alongside Komatsu and the customer.

Backed by more than 100 years of mining expertise, Komatsu Germany Mining Division continues to advance the capabilities of ultra-large hydraulic excavators.
