Kenworth Unveils New L770 and L770E Refuse Trucks at WasteExpo
Kenworth has expanded its Class 8 vocational lineup with the introduction of two new low-cab forward models: the diesel-powered L770 and the battery-electric L770E. Revealed at WasteExpo, these are Kenworth’s first vocational low-cab forward trucks, designed specifically for demanding applications such as refuse collection, concrete pumping, crane operations, and paint striping. Both models are now available for order and delivery across the U.S. and Canada through Kenworth dealers.
Kenworth L770 Highlights
Built with a galvanized steel cab frame and aluminum panels, the L770 features a 90-degree door opening and a stainless-steel grille for durability and style. Multiple cab configurations are available, including Left-Hand Drive, Right-Hand Drive, Dual Seated Drive, and Dual Drive with Right-Hand Stand-Up, making it adaptable to different fleet requirements.
The L770 shares its electrical system with Kenworth’s heavy-duty vocational models like the T880, allowing for smoother integration of aftermarket equipment. Frame layouts are pre-configured for front loaders, side loaders, and rear loaders to simplify and speed up body installations.
Powertrain options include:
PACCAR MX-11: up to 445 hp and 1,700 lb.-ft. of torque
PACCAR PX-9: up to 380 hp and 1,250 lb.-ft. of torque
CNG options: Cummins X15N (up to 500 hp), ISX12N (up to 400 hp), and L9N (up to 320 hp)
Kenworth L770E: Zero-Emission Performance
The electric L770E brings the same vocational toughness as the L770, now with a zero-emission Meritor eAxle powertrain producing 536 hp continuous (670 hp peak) and 1,623 lb.-ft. of torque. Powered by a 350 kWh LFP battery, the L770E can handle up to 1,100 side loader bin cycles or 130 rear loader compactor cycles per charge, with a range of up to 120 miles depending on configuration.
Designed for the start-stop nature of refuse work, it features regenerative braking and fast DC charging at 125 kW for a full charge in about 3.5 hours. AC charging is also available. With a GVWR of 66,000 lbs, the L770E includes factory-installed high- and low-voltage ePTO ports for powering vocational equipment and aftermarket body add-ons. Inside the cab, operators benefit from a BEV-specific dash providing real-time route and battery insights.
