John Deere Raises the Bar with Next-Generation 8R and 8RX Tractors, Delivering Up to 540 Horsepower

John Deere is expanding the power and capability of its 8-Series lineup with the introduction of six new 8R and 8RX tractor models. Built from the ground up, these next-generation machines offer increased horsepower, enhanced maneuverability, and smarter technology to handle more acres with ease.

For more than 30 years, John Deere has continuously refined the 8-Series based on customer feedback. New 440, 490, and 540 horsepower options offer a broader range to better meet evolving customer needs.

Work-Ready Technology

Technology remains at the heart of the John Deere experience, and the new 8R and 8RX tractors are built to deliver. These models are autonomy-ready to support efficient tillage operations and feature the G5Plus display, giving operators access to precision agriculture tools such as AutoTrac™ Turn Automation, AutoTrac™ Implement Guidance, and AutoPath™. Equipped for Machine Sync and available with optional JDLink™ Boost to help maintain reliable machine and field data tracking.

Performance You Can Count On

Equipped with the JD14 engine, the new 8R and 8RX tractors are engineered to deliver maximum power on demand. With Intelligent Power Management (IPM) and optional peak power, operators can unlock an additional 40 horsepower at rated 1,900 rpm—and maintain max horsepower down to 1,700 rpm. This enables up to 634 horsepower for demanding hydraulic, PTO, transport, or electrical power applications, ensuring power that delivers on demand.

Hydraulic performance has also been enhanced, with increased pump capacity and separate pumps dedicated to steering and braking. The updated Independent Link Suspension (ILS) front axle supports higher carrying capacity, adds roll control for improved road handling, and enables transport speeds of up to 60 kph—boosting productivity for operators who spend time moving between fields.

Optional front hitch and front PTO configurations further expand versatility, while the rear hitch delivers up to 24,000 pounds of lift capacity to handle larger implements. The available 1,300 rpm PTO option provides additional power for demanding attachments.

Superior Handling

Built to move with precision, these tractors pair a tight turn radius with intelligent Reactive Command Steering, which auto-centers the wheel and offers three adjustable settings. A narrow, agile frame further improves machine handling.

Control Meets Comfort

The 8-Series tractor is equipped with an Electric Variable Transmission (EVT), enabling efficient electric power offboarding through a single connection. This eliminates the need for PTO or hydraulic generators when powering electric drive planters. New transmission control options CommandX™, CommandX™ Plus, and CommandX™ Pro enhance operational consistency across the lineup. A standardized handle and configurable settings, ensures consistent operation while supporting operator-specific preferences.

Additional enhancements include push-button start with PIN access control, new engine throttle controls, and a redesigned Convenience Display for quick adjustments to radio, climate, seat, and phone settings. An integrated wireless phone charger, two-way independent electric armrest adjustment, optional door cinch, and improved cab visibility with a 330-degree windshield wiper round out the operator-focused updates.

Designed With Serviceability in Mind

Daily inspections are streamlined with eye-level sight gauges for engine oil, coolant, and hydraulic oil. Ground-level access to the air filter and fuel/DEF fill points enhances serviceability, while hydraulic oil intervals extended to 2,000 hours help maximize uptime. A door-mounted battery disconnect and jumper add convenience.
