Cat Launches 301 CR Micro Excavator
Caterpillar has introduced the Cat 301 CR micro hydraulic excavator for work in confined spaces and a variety of applications.
The machine can be used can be used for indoor demolition, agricultural tasks and landscaping projects where working space is limited. Its compact dimensions allow it to pass through doorways measuring 30 by 78 inches (762 by 1,981 mm) and maneuver in tight spaces with limited overhang.
A folded Roll Over Protection Structure (ROPS) height under 72 inches (1,829 mm) and maximum operating weight of 2,712 pounds (1,230 kg) help simplify transport of the Cat 301 CR. The foldable ROPS can be raised and secured during operation to provide operator protection.
Undercarriage and Performance
Track width on the Cat 301 CR ranges from 28.7 inches (730 mm) to 43.3 inches (1,100 mm). The undercarriage and blade can retract for access to narrow spaces, while the expandable undercarriage improves stability and lift capacity compared with the Cat 300.9D.
Travel speed reaches 2.2 miles per hour (3.6 km/h), twice the maximum speed of the Cat 300.9D. Stick force is rated at 1,394 pounds (6.2 kN), 38% higher than the 300.9D, while bucket force measures 2,158 pounds (9.6 kN), an 8% increase compared with the 300.9D. Maximum lift capacity is 868 pounds (394 kg) at a height of 3 feet (0.91 m) and a radius of 6 feet (1.83 m) to the front.
A closed-loop swing circuit helps the excavator operate more efficiently, with faster cycle times and less heat generation than the 300.9D.
Controls, Maintenance and Monitoring
The Cat 301 CR’s gauge cluster has a simplified layout for viewing machine readings, along with side-mounted joystick controls for straightforward operation. A standard LED boom light supports work in buildings and low-light conditions.
For maintenance, the seat can be tilted to expose the engine compartment and surrounding components. For fleet monitoring, VisionLink provides information on machine location and operating hours.
The excavator offers an optional second auxiliary hydraulic circuit for use with mechanical work tools.
Attachments for Different Applications
A Pin Puller Coupler allows operators to change compatible attachments without tools, saving time during changeovers. The B1 Pin On hammer is a compatible work tool for the Cat 301 CR for concrete and asphalt demolition.
The A13 Auger combines a slim drive design with a durable cast drive unit housing. Its flights are 12 inches (305 mm) shorter than those of equivalent diameters to optimize machine reach height and unloading.
The new general-purpose buckets feature a smooth edge and wide profile for trenching. Three bolt-on teeth can be removed and replaced as needed, while Cat ditch-cleaning buckets feature drain holes for working with wet material.
