Caterpillar Unveils Autonomous Cat® 777 Off-Highway Truck at Luck Stone Quarry
IRVING, Texas – Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT) has successfully demonstrated the autonomous operation of its Cat® 777 off-highway truck, marking a major step forward in automation for the quarry and aggregates industry. This milestone debut at Luck Stone’s Bull Run plant highlights Caterpillar’s ongoing commitment to delivering cutting-edge autonomous hauling solutions.
The achievement builds on a long-standing collaboration between Caterpillar and Luck Stone, the largest family-owned producer of crushed stone, sand, and gravel in the U.S. The partnership, announced in December 2022, aims to accelerate the development of autonomous solutions for quarry and aggregate operations.
Expanding Autonomous Hauling in Aggregates
This marks Caterpillar’s first deployment of autonomous technology in the aggregates industry, introducing autonomy to the 100-ton-class (90-tonne-class) Cat® 777. With this launch, Caterpillar expands its autonomous truck fleet, which has already traveled over 325 million kilometers and moved more than 8.62 billion tonnes of material across three continents.
The success of Cat® MineStar™ Command for hauling at the Bull Run plant signals a new era in quarry operations, aiming to make autonomous technology scalable and economically viable for the broader industry while enhancing safety and productivity.
This milestone at Bull Run is just the beginning. The insights gained from this deployment will help refine and validate autonomous technology before its broader adoption in the aggregates industry. By integrating automation, Caterpillar and Luck Stone are driving efficiency, safety, and innovation in quarry operations.
